If I were to use a reflector with an area enclosed for the MH bulb, protected by glass for UV rays, like this one...

How could my fan in my canopy cool the bulb? Or does it not matter how hot the bulb is, just how cool the overall canopy is?

Here is my canopy, I will be retrofitting a 70 watt MH instead of the PC's, notice the fan...

Thank you for any help, I would really like to get rid of the huge piece of glass so I can access my tank more easily and will have better gas exchange, so I would like a piece of glass to only cover the MH if possible.

Do you want the PCs in at the same time with the MH? Or just the MH itself?

From what I see, it could work. The only way to know is to try.

Oh yeah, whats with the binder clips?

Those are to hold in the glass, if you look closely you can see "uv filter" written on it.

Yes, I'm ripping out the PC's and adding only one 13 watt actinic retrofit from hellolights.

So the bulb doesn't need to be directly cooled?

If you take a look at the IceCap MH pendants, http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=IC3711 they have a couple vents on the side, but no direct cooling. So I would assume direct cooling is not needed. However, you still will need to cool the canopy itself.
