Hi,

I have an overflow that does not have a standpipe in it. It was making lots of noise b/c of the water falling all the way to the bottom of the tank to flow out.

In my sump I have a ball valve for the return from the tank as well as for the fuge.

What I did was close these valves to the point where the water level in the overflow rose up to about 2/3 the way. The tank is MUCH quieter now. My qustion is: Is it ok to do this? Does anyone else do this?

Maybe adding a float switch to the return pump incase of a drain clog is a good idea? What do you guys think?

Thanks! Waxx

What they do is called the new 'Herbie mod'. You leave it how you have it, but you install a second 'emergency' drainline that doesnt have a ball valve. This drainline sits higher than the controlled main drain. Its not used unless something clogs the main. If you need more explaination, search for Herbie mod.

Why not just make a standpipe?
