My GSP has lost most of the green from them, the colony is still spreading and the new polops are still popping up green but the main part of the colony is faded and is the color of the mouth.
Temp is ~78F
Lighting is a 175w 20k XM over the 29g display.
Don't know the water params off the top of my head i'll try to get some tests done tonight.

They look fine except for the loss of color.

Also my weird LMB keeps perching on them, could that be stressing them enough to make them loose color?

i highly doubt its from the blenny. My clowns hosted mine and would polish away in it and it barely phased it. Ive seen it fade from algae growing on it but thats it.

do you have a phosphate test kit?

LegoZ81

yes but it sucks low end is way too high still

Benny Z

try some phos-ban.

or, better, stick those suckers in the 125g. i'll bet they color right back up.

i'm saying the low end of the kit it too hit, the phosphates are not detactable by it. sorry for the confusion

i still say stick them in the 125g.

well i broke off a frag and it's in the 125 and it has not changed at all. I guess I'll wait it out and see what the frag does when/if it starts spreading.

still no change of the frag in the 125g and the piece in the 29 has lost more color :O

Is the loss of color possibly related to a loss of zooxanthellae???

rick rottet

difficult to say.
if they truly are turning brown, prolly not losing zooxanthellae, but rather losing their fluorescent pigments, which could be from a change in spectrum...or not enough light...or not enough UV....(other)???
if they are also turning pale, they may be losing zooxanthellae, generally thought to be a reaction to too much light and/or warmer temps.
in either case, the causes could be guess work at best. It is pretty obvious that the coral doesn't have some sort of stimulus that it needs to maintain the pigments....(or else it has too much of some sort of stimulus)??? maybe the best thing to do is frag it up and put pieces all around both tanks, some high and some low. see which pieces do the best.
maybe pull the acrylic lens off of one light and put a piece under that too.

/shrugs
very strange, GSP is generally very highly adaptable to any captive condition, with in reason.

sorry, but that's about all i can suggest.

ALK = 7.84 dkh/2.7979 meg/l
8.0pH
Calcium 570mg/l
Phospahte less than .2mg/l no color change on test kit whatsoever.
SG = 1.023

rick rottet

calcium is a little high.
other than that, what you have listed looks within reason.
wether high ca could provoke the response you are seeing in the gsp is anybody's guess.

Phosphate = < .001
Mag = 1170
Calc = above 500 still
sg w/refractometer = 1.027

whatever units Salfiert's kits are in.

Well the frag in the overflow box of the 125 has fully colored up. the bigger piece I put in there has been chewed up pretty bad by that bi-color and is in my 30L with a clown under 110w of PC till I can get the stupid angel out of there. Since then the piece in the 29 stopped putting it polyps out. I need to try and get that moved tonight, I also need to work diligantly in moving fish from the 29 to the 125. I will then break the 29 down. That tank is turning into the death tank. The rock will go into the 30L.
