Ok, I have 2 hermit crabs (1 just molted and only had him for a week) and some astrea snails and I don't want the hermit crabs to kill the astrea snails. The LFS will not sell me any hermit crab shells, so is there any sites that will actually ship a packet of hermit crab shells?

btw these are red legged hermit crabs, so the shells need to be small

most any website that sells livestock will also sell extra shells. I bought some from saltwaterfish.com. It was fifty shells for $10. There was a good variety of size. It's weird that your LFS won't sell you extras. No matter where you buy the shells make sure you boil them before putting them in the tank or you can get hitchhikers.

yeah I thought so too, saltwaterfish.com states I have to buy at $79 worth of product before they will ship anything because of the gas shortage (pretty stupid too me)

I might be in charlotte, nc soon. I am sure some store there will sell me some

Surely the plain bags of shells at Micheals Arts and Crafts for about 2.99 will do? No varnish of course. Just plain shells.

you know....I didn't think about that. I am assuming the real good. The shells they are in right now look fake. Just some coraline alga on the shell

What does everyone else thing?

Yeah, I bought a pack of all natural shells at Michael's. I boiled them to just make sure. But my hermits use them a lot. :)

awesome!

Thats something I haven't heard before and I just wanted to make sure it seems to work.

I think the other crab is molting as well, acting just like the other crab before it molted.

And they're a means of animating shells of creatures far too dangerous to the reef to let them go about and be neat.

Living in florida on the beach, I have found many cool homes for my hermits, that they have loved, and I've got some cool colors, along with cool looking shells... Perks of living in Florida I guess
