migrated my makeshift 29g reef to an "upgraded" drilled tank w/ internal overflow and return.

the system has now been set up for a little over 30 hours.

i also got a new camera last night, so i'm having fun trying it out. warning, these are very large pics.

orange zoos (http://home.insightbb.com/~ben.zimmerman/salt/orangezoos.jpg) can anyone identify the macro algae (?) growing on this rock and is there a predator?

kenya tree (http://home.insightbb.com/~ben.zimmerman/salt/kenyatree.jpg)

mushrooms (http://home.insightbb.com/~ben.zimmerman/salt/mushrooms.jpg)

sump (http://home.insightbb.com/~ben.zimmerman/salt/sumpday2.jpg)

still trying to get some good pics of the fish. those little buggers are fast.

Looking good, how are those Rics doing from extreme?

the rics from extreme are all gone. every single one of them. :(

the ric from badbu, however, is doing great. i'll bet it splits in no time.

Well that sucks, I'll give you one of my orange ones when they start to split. They look really good under the MH.

Hey Benny let me ask you something. Why did you go BB is there any real advantage to it other than clean look? Just asking.

eh, no real rhyme or reason. more of an experiment than anything.

i'm not a fan of dsb tanks because i think they are unsightly (no offense to any readers w/ dsbs :D). i do prefer the look of a shallow sand bed over a bare bottom, but have found them to be a pita to clean. i'm tentatively planning for this tank to become a sps frag growout tank once my 200g is up and running, so i will be adding a lot more flow. lots of flow in a small footprint tank with sand isn't a good combination imo.

Yeah, I agree. I was just asking because it seems like the BB tanks are really gaining a popular following. My 10 is about 90% BB, I have a shallow layer of sand in the very front of the tank and the rest is BB. It lokks kind of like a beach. My 30gal. is going to be BB most likely and I am going to try to keep it SPS dominate with the addition of a clam or two.

I'm going with a 1 inch layer of sand in the 180g.

If you ever get it up and running that is, right ;P

we drilled the wrong side of the tank. didn't realize it until it was too late. (obviously)

Well it does give a certain feeling of being "broke in".
