I recieved my 8 bulb Tek T-5 set up and the is the best AMERICAN made fixture in the business by far... If you don't belive me look at the CATALINA AQUARIUM NIGHTMARE TREAD. :D

is it actually american made?

I doubt all the internals are.

it is a good light though, although the aquatinics is also very good.

Just be careful with the reflectors, they will stain and slightly discolor. I have a Tek setup on my 55, and this is my ONLY complaint. Great fixture! Im going retro for my 180, and I dont plan on using the Tek reflectors for this reason.

I've been looking at one of these for my 75. Can you hang the Tek on your aquarium (mounting brace), or must they only be suspended from the ceiliing? I don't have a canopy.

There are mounting legs made for the Tek fixture, which I purchased for around $60. One of the features is that you can also adjust the height of the fixture.

I just ordered a 36" 4x39w for my 38g that I'm switching over to Zoas and SPS. Can't wait to get it set up! I bought the legs and acrylic shield and am running:

I've got two TEK fixtures. My only grudge is that the screws are rusting. I would have been more than willing to pay the extra $1.29 to have it assembled with stainless steel hardware (yes, I know SS will rust but not nearly as fast).

I dont' have any staining on the reflectors, probably because I use clear shields to prevent salt spray from getting to them.

I'm returning mine to ReefGeek. The unit was defective, bad endcap or wiring I suspect. I know it happens sometimes, but the build quality that I expected was just not there. Also the paint on the $60 tank brackets peeled off quite easily. It is also absurd the the splash shield is extra for a light that is to be used on an aquarium. I have seen them in operation and the light output is impressive, once I had one in my hands I was just not impressed with the quality, and it was defective. It is a pity because I was psyched for it.

the reasons above make the benefits of retrofitting even more poignant.

you know what exactly goes into them..
