any suggestions on small 4 inch fans that I could buy locally somewhere? Or how to get a computer fan to run on AC. The temp in my room for some reason is about 80 right now and I think the tanks will be fine but figured i should get going on some fans. The two tanks are at 83 degrees.

best guess is probably good ol' Radio Shack.

I got a 4" personal fan from Walmart for $5.99 and it works awesome on my tank. They are in the fan area of course and are in different colored boxes.

Ask brad23 I found some nice 120mm 120v fans for his canopy for 15 bux a piece they are pretty nice.
They move (iirc) 80cfm at 36dB

the one I am currently using is a 12v pc fan. it is a YSTech 120mm fan that moves 131cfm @ 12v @ 48dB it is currently overvolted to 20v (that is the power supply I had on hand.)
beware though even at stock voltage mine is a screamer!
I got it at www.plycon.com. I'll shoot this thread to Brad.

Actually I ended up paying $13 a fan. They are 33db and they keep my temp consitant with 500w of MH over my 75g.

I'll try and find the link, I think he gave me a wholesale account as well.

thanks for the link. this may be a dumb question but what does CFM stand for? and is the 33 db fan very loud, im not up to par on that either. Thanks

They are a little loud for my liking but not bad. It's more of a humming sound than anything else.

They really move some air.

CFM = cufic feet a minute
it measures the volume of air the fan moves a minute
simular to a GPH rating (gallons per hour)

you should some where be able to find a dB explanation chart somewhere that plots various common noises so you can compare how loud the fan is to something you know

ah makes sense, yea the only reason im concerned with the noise is that both tanks are in my rooms and i already have to listen to skimmers and pumps and the fans on the lights.

You may want to check out xoxide.com also, it's a computer parts store, but the fans are the same. 120mm is equivalent to a 4" fan. Also, newegg.com is great too. They both have good prices and are quite reliable.
