Serpent Starfish

Hi,

Has anyone ever had an incident in which a serpent starfish just fell apart over a week. My starfish did that. It seemed like he was wounded and then his legs started breaking up and he just died. Any ideas

How long did you have the animal? Sometimes acclimation stress does them in. How much were you feeding it?

Sounds like salinity shock since these animals rely on water for their vascular system, rapid changes in salinity are devastating. It can take up to a week or longer for symptoms (like the one you describe) to occur.

I have had them both for six months. One was really greedy took a half cube of mysis shrimp by himself. The other one looks sluggish.I have noticed that my salinity was actually high. Off the meter high. I don't have anyone to blame but self for this one. Thanks
