I have this small, fire truck red algae/coral popping up on my newly cured LR. It was there when I first got the rock... and some areas have further bleached out. Is it some type of coral? Or some algae? Thanks

Looks like it might be Homotrema rubra, a foraminiferan.

Thanks, you are correct. It's Homotrema rubrum. Apparently a small, cool, good thing. See link: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2003-07/rs/index.php

Cool... I have those and wondered what they were. Are they common?

They seem to be very common. I have a bunch in my tank. The description as "miniature coral" is actually pretty good, although they and the corals are only very distantly related. Thanks for posting the correct species name!
