View Full Version : Need some ideas for my nano
Hey guys I'm hoping to get some ideas for my nano. I'm going to build the tank, stand and hood myself. I have a 150 watt DE 14k bulb and eballast on the way, and I want to get 2x24 watt T5s with good reflectors for supplemental lighting.
tank dimensions: what would be a cool tank size and dimensions for this type of lighting setup?
T5 bulbs: will two Giesemann actinics be "really" blue? I like the look of most 14-15K bulbs with actinic supplementation but the T5s make so much light I'm thinking it might be overwhelming.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts..

here's what i think would be cool.
build the tank with dimensions something like 12x12x18 (which is actually a little bigger then a 10). then go with one pilar rock structure. maybe something like this...but on a smaller scale..

tons of flow, BB. SPS in top half of the tank, zoos down low. flow through a closed loop running through an OM 4-way. overflow through a external durso style overflow. with a bigass skimmer running in as big of a sump as you can fit into the stand.
that's what i'd do...but it's pretty easy to come up with ideas when your spending someone else's money.

Phenom that sounds like an exellent idea. I especcialy like the pillar of rocks.
WSC a 10 gallon cube viewable from all sides with a pile of rocks in the middle would be cool.

i think 20x20x12 would be a sweet tank. its about 21 gal total volume. you could build a rock peninsula and have lots of shelves to mount frags and whatnot.
Man those are some great ideas. I really wanna keep the T5s though and they are 24" long.. kinda makes it a PITA to come up with a cool small tank.. might have to just ditch the T5s =/

29 gal would work, I'd go with a 30 gallon cube so you have some depth to work with.
