Want to go from SB to BB tank

I am looking to remove my 3" sand bed and go BB without disturbing the tank's water quality. The tank has been set up for approx. 16 years. I want to re-use the sand in my new refugium set-up. What are the best procedure?:)

I woyldnt recommend a fuge on a bb tank
defeats the purpose

All you need is a sump with a big skimmer and any other filtration you wish to use like phosban andstuff like that
