i'm closing on my new house on Monday. I have been waiting forever to start up my new tanks. I was going to go crazy in that place soon. I was really looking forward to it. That's a shame. Vic's a good guy, too.

Beldt's & MS are very near by there & a much better selection than Petopia had since John sold out.

Yeah, they were going to be my first stop for livestock also. :( I like Beldt's and it isn't too far, but Petopia is right around the corner.

I'm begining to think that store is a bad place. Hum...
I thought he wanted WAY to much for his tanks. But the Live stuff was around the same price as the rest. JMO.

I think it's a bad location. They are too close to both MS and Beldt's, and both stores are better. Although it looked like they were going to make some considerable improvements. I was looking forward to seeing the new coral tank up and running.

Doesn't seem they gave it a long enough time to get going well. That's a common new bus. problem is undercapitalization and/or expecting profit too soon. If you look up the the stats, the average bus won't begin to make profit until 18 months and not break even until 36 months. It's called the "Valley of Death" when you look at it on a graph. So when you see a bus go out in less than 2 years it's a product of a poor bus. plan and undercapitalization. I guess you could say too much optimism but you can't let optimism blind you to facts. There are exceptions ie. Chad being already with a cash flow from starting at home that help to speed that time up etc. It's a shame to see a LFS go especially since many customers might end up at the big chain stores. But then again maybe there are some other reasons we don't know about involved in the decision.

I talked with him on Sunday, he has completely vacated the building. Everything was moved to his basement for the time being.

Does he have any good skimmers he's trying to sell?

I agree with you DOC. In order to make money in a BUS. you must first spend more than you have. And you are almost always in the red zone for around 2 years. You have to be able to "float" things along in the beganing and not worry about making a profit, but rather stay afloat. My sister started there bus. so far in the red they had to sell there house and buy a smaller one as well as sell their second car. That was 8 years ago, today they bought and paid for their very nice brand new home and have 2 brand new cars and a strong bus. Both of them run it now and no longer work second jobs. It was by no means easy, but they stuck with it and road out a few rough stroms for a pretty good pay off.

I see what you mean. I just called the store and it said the number was disconnected. Does anyone know how to get ahold of him? Or does anyone know anywhere else I can get a tiger pistol shrimp?

I thought he wanted WAY to much for his tanks.

Really? I called a bunch of stores in town and got my tank for about $200 less than what everyone else quoted.

Everything I got for him was very reasonable... wasn't the greatest location and considering the overhead of a building it might just make mor sence for him to run it out of his basement untill a proper venue opens up. Asside from that my understanding with other types of businesses is that there is a fair bit of benefits/perks to having it at home if you don't think you'll need a huge storefront.

the building rent was 1200.00 a month not bad for the size building and he didnt even use half of the building

i am not going to say what the problem was (not my place)

When went there he had just taken over and the cheapest 55g tank not RR he said he could get me was $155.00. No stand, no light just a tank. I think thats kind of high.

I'm still sorry to see him go. I just thought he was a bit high on the tanks.
