A marine grade of waterproof paint would be safe to apply, although I don't know how well it would stick. Some people have used Rit dye, although I'd be afraid of leaching. A wood tank builder should be able to help with picking a paint.

It'll get covered with coralline over time, which might look okay to you.

Krylon Fusion spray paint. works good. make sure you follow the directions on the can and let it cure.

I did this and there are many others on this board who have as well without ill effects on the tank or its inhabitants.

krylon fusion is reef safe paint but make sure it is the fusion type. also like Bertoni said it will get covered with coraline alage over time.

One of the easiest ways to color your PVC black is to use a sharpie marker, let it dry and drop it in.

i have used the rustoleum paint and it worked fine. The downside is it only lasted 7 months. Kyroln fusion is still going a year plus

There is a vendor in Ohio... and I apologize I can't think of the name at the moment... who sells black PVC fittings. If I went through my records, I might be able to find an invoice from them. I actually heard about them from anothr guy here on RC.

I ordered some pieces about 2 years ago. My background is black, so I also wanted to have black returns, instead of the normal white which would stick out like a sore thumb. They said that many pieces don't yet come in black, but they expected the variety to increase over time. They got me some black 45- and 90-degree elbows to make my returns, and they look great.

It's not as much help as I wish I could give, but black PVC does exist.

Yeah, that's it. Thanks. ;)

Like I said earlier though, not everything comes in black. They have parts to create a return though.

Good luck.
