I took out my 10 year old sandbed on friday. Hopefully this will take care of my nutrient problem. What do you think?

I'm a little disappointed. The thread title lead me to believe I was going to see something off topic and unmentionable. Whoo hoo!

Nevertheless, your tank looks good. Hope it solves the problems.

Did the recession stop yet? How do you like the look of it as opposed to the sand bed in place? I'm going to vaccum all of my sand out as well but I'm going to replace it with 1/2" of special grade sand of a larger particle diameter. I've got southdown now and hate it....

dphins
03/05/2006, 08:33 PM
I like the look of it, plus I really ramped up the flow. The corals seem to like it also. I haven't noticed anymore recession.

dphins
03/05/2006, 08:35 PM
One other thing, there really hasn't been much stuff on the bottom of the tank. When I has pulling the sand out, I noticed it was pretty clean. Not the horry stories people always talk about. I really took care of it.

I'll comment for you. I think it looks good. Would like to see a straight on photo to get a better look but from the side angles I think the aquascaping looks good.

When you getting a Tunze??????:D

I dont like the look of bare bottom but with your case, sand or corals I think you made the right move.

i don't think i like the bare bottom look all that much either, but your coral is amazing!

I am about to set up a 125 and have the same dilemna...re-use my southdown or go barebottom. I may compromise and put a small amount, about an inch of sand.

I like the way you did it, I just don't know if I am ready to get rid of my sand yet. Barebottom seems so...sterile but considering the problems you have had, sterile may be what is needed.

I went with 3/4" deap special grade bed too and I like it.

I am going to use about 3/4" to an 1" of special grade sand. Lost Marbles Tank looks awesome.

Where is the straight on Old picture?

IMO I like your tank before this. But with that said, nice corals.

I was wanting to add another tunze on the right corner. That way I can have them alternate back and fourth. But, another 6100 and a multi controller is very expensive.

Markk96
03/06/2006, 07:30 PM
I ran two 6100's on a single controller for awhile with a branch adapter kit.

How did you like it? Does it run them both at the same time?

One of these days when I get a bigger tank.

kentrob11

I like the open feel to it Mike- A couple of suggestions tho- Have you ever thought about scraping your back clean? I'd bet a nice clean black back would really make things stand out and give your tank a sense of depth....If you got one of those magnet razor scrapers you could keep it clean as long as you had a couple of inches clearance at the back of your rock work...Also, How about a small closed loop with a few small 1/2" black pvc Els coming into the tank instead of powerheads?

dphins
03/06/2006, 10:40 PM
Keeping the back clean is very hard. It's a constant battle keeping the coralline algae off the glass.
If I add another tunze on the right, I wouldn't need those powerheads.

With my sandbed, I had to turn down the flow. There was no way I could add another tunze. With no sand, it would be great. Also, I want to run one at a time, back and forth.

It's kicking some serious water around! 2 Tunze in a 75 is great. Not quite like Farmers tank, but I like it.

chadfarmer
03/10/2006, 05:39 PM
can the corals handle it

dphins
03/10/2006, 05:43 PM
Yes. I don't have them pointed strait at them. Without the sand in the tank, I can bounce the flow off the walls. It's like a toilet bowl in my tank.

I still love the purple (millepora is it? sorry, I'm still learning my sps stuff) and hope to have something like it in my tank. Also like the blue.

Remember if you keep fish from below the equator to reverse the direction of tank flow.

d_icemand

hey farmer, maybe you need more flow, so that you can have the toilet bowl effect as well because you need to "flush" that algae!!!

go bubble queen!
