Is it OK to use small silicone blobs to fasten small items above the waterline in my reef?

yup. I have even dropped wet silicone into my tank and freaked until I ask the maker what the smell is -- toxic? It is for us to breath because it is a M-atic based acid that keeps the silicone from setting. Not harmful in the water in small amounts supposedly. Anybody have horror story???
