Anyone listen to Reefcast on an MP3 player?

I use my PSP with 2gig Memory stick so I can listen to Reefcast during lunch break at work. I just use my headphones and zone out.

You can download straight to the PSP with your wireless connection because it has an internet browser or transfer from PC with a USB cable.
Download is about 32MB For an hour long Reefcast.

Reefcast.com (http://www.reefcast.com/index.php)

Reefcast is pretty cool and entertaining....I hear Cyclopese Tastes terrible...lol

Melev and Quicksilver obviously have a blast recording it .There is some funny stuff on there.

The information given on this podcast is from beginner to advanced so there something for everyone.

Thats cool I haven't listened to the latest one yet....I have an I-river mp3 player and thought about down loading it for work maybe I'll have to do that this week. I can use it while working, I work grocery stocking on 3rd shift and the boss don't mind.

It might be a little hard concentrating on the information given and working at the same time. I find myself jotting down info I can use while I listen. I cant wait till they do a video cast of sump building. Thats some information thru video that would be really helpful. I have a 4x4 sheet of 3/8 GP waiting for my sump.

Azurel

That will be some good info to have....Plus actually seeing it being built helps a lot, I'm OK with written instructions but seeing it is so much easier and can be less confusing.

Yea I read the info and look at the pics a hundred times ,but seeing someone apply the weld on and pull the pins will give you an idea of what it really takes.

I had a 150 mile drive this evening, and I listened to episodes, 2, 3, and 4. I was surprised to hear my question being answered at the start of #4. Cool! I guess several people here must be listening.

Oh yeah, I'm on an iPod with a tape adapter.

Thanks Marc.... I thought you would like the pic.......As far as subscribing through the PSP ( I haven't done that) I just download episodes to my laptop and transfer them over to the PSP through USB. My PSP wont play nice with my router because of the 128 bit encryption so this is why I just transfer them over.

When is episode 5 coming.....My PSP feels all empty and bored. LOL

Yeah, I know. :(

I'm going to make it official - episodes will come out every other week from now on. Evan is a very busy individual with many talents, but there aren't enough hours in the day for him to accomplish all he wants to do. Getting together with him for a few hours to record a show is no problem, but the editing portion takes quite some time. He wants it to be perfect, and it can't be rushed.

I talked to him this evening, and he told me he was going to put an announcement on the site tonight but when I checked, I didn't see it. Tomorrow night he will get it finished. Once it is done, I listen to it and create all the show notes for him to add to the downloads page within a few hours. So if that works out as planned, Thursday morning bright and early, it will be available to all.

Thank you for your patience.

No worries, just anxious. I know it is a very time consuming process, and besides having a tank to tinker with, there just are not that many hours in the day. I look forward to thursday.

Thursday is better then ...never.

Hey Marc is there going to be video with this one? Thought someone said you guys took some video.

melev
03/22/2006, 02:01 PM
Yes, but I think it will be a separate file. Evan has Aaron helping him with that, and he's the guy that designed the website. I bet he'll make it look amazing if he has a little time to put into it.

I was thinking the actual file could have some video even though most of it is pure audio, but Evan told me they can't be combined - at least at this time. When we shot video, we also shot more for a future release on a somewhat different topic. :)

Videos were cool......and thanks for the mention on the the website Evan.....I don't think I can wait till work on Monday so I'm going to listen now.

One thing about the video....I have 6mb broadband so I wouldn't mind a hi rez video download if its not a lot of trouble maybe you can post both a hi and low resolution video. When you do the sump building video (that I'm hoping you do) it would really help to be hi resolution download.

iaJim
03/24/2006, 10:21 PM
I second what mako199 said. Lots of people have high speed and would love the alternative. I suppose that increases your bandwidth, and cost, so if that's the case..... That's cool too.

Thanks for your hard work.

melev
03/24/2006, 10:30 PM
The videos this time were pretty large. If a large number of people download them (and we'll know soon enough), bandwidth could quickly be a problem. The food video was 60 megs. If 1000 people download it, that's 60 gigs right there (I think).

I'm sure as things progress, we'll be able to provide better options in the future. One person offered us some hosting space for videos, so that would help. I know the video doesn't seem like a lot of work went into it, but it took several hours to get it edited and rendered for the web. I thought it was rather poorly lighted, so we'll have to address that in the future.

You're right about the need for high quality video when showing construction, because you need to see what is happening.

Listening to Reefcast on my MP3 player is officially responsible for the "Weirdest Look I've Ever Received" award...

I ride a large motorcycle (Honda Valkyrie) and have a MP3 player w/ amplified speakers clipped to the handlebars...

I was at a stoplight, listening to Reefcast. Good-Ole-Boy pickup pulled up next to me, window started to come down, this happens quite often. I usually get a "Nice Bike!" type comment, and that's it...

The window came down, the guy listened for about 10 seconds (I don't even recall what they were talking about, much less which episode it was), and suddenly the window was brought back up really really quick, the driver wouldn't look at me, eyes straight ahead trying to not acknowledge my existence...

Considering I usually listen to stuff like acapelle pirate music or bagpipe music while riding, the fact that Reefcast out-weirded even those is definitely saying something!

I'll try the next reefcast on my psp.

Right now I just download it onto my iPod, and listen when I drive to and from work. Cuts my stress level down.

Hi Nano_reeflover,

I still don't own an mp3 player, but I do download mp3 files to my PC all the time. Once it has been downloaded, you should be able to move the files onto your mp3 player either with the player's software or with Explorer in Windows. Hope you can figure it out.

If you don't know how to download an mp3 to your PC, just find the appropriate link (like any other file you'd want to save to your harddrive), and right click. Next click on Save File As, and be sure you note what directory you are saving it to.

If you still can't get that to work, try PMing me or ask in the Lounge as I'm sure someone with a player should know what to do. Be sure to let them know what brand & model player you have, in case it is something type-specific.

I'd like to get one myself, but can't get past the price tag. I remember when a Sony Walkman was $80 and that was considered high-end price-wise. Now a iPod is $300! :eek2:
