Well after getting on the Saltwater phenomonom I've recently noticed that my tank is well......BORING! although I like my little fishe it only consists of 1 very small damsel, 3lbs of live rock, a heater, filter, and blah flourscent lighting. Right now I really dont have the money to upgrade the lighting, however I was wondering if there was anything I could put in there that would perhaps make it less boring. :fish1:

Thanks

what i did was get a corallife mini 18 watt fixture and suspend it over my 2.5 .... thats about the best light i tried over it ... not only did it support that tank and any coral i decided to put it in ( used it as a hospital/quarantine tank for frags) they flourished .... it runs about $30 anywhere you get it ...

If you can keep your flow down you could try a Sexy shrimp ...and you could allways just try your local reef club and pick up some frags and grow em out .... allways a great excuse to upsize the tank ;) ... as for live stock try going w/ any of the small Clown-gobies ...and maybe some firefish if you can get them small enough and have somewhere to move them once they get too big ..... I've got 7 tanks and my 2.5 is just about my fav because there are so many possibilities and you really can't go wrong ....Good luck and let us know how it's going ....

i would say if u cant upgrade the lighting, that leaves out corals, so the only thing you could do is get a type of shrimp, or crab that wont attack your damsel. What type of damsel is it?

I bought used lighting. I was able to get 55 watt power compact setup for $25 each(I bought 2 of them)---look and see if you can find a good used deal. Also ebay is always a good place to look

I've got a 2 hex that was given to me it's been running for 3 weeks w/ the intent that there would be a mantis in there shortly .... so I agree w/ reefdreams ..

I wouldn't due a mantis in a 2 gallon unless you either

A- Make sure he gets no bigger than a couple inches.
or
B- Have a reefer that wants him when he gets big.

You can try sexy shrimp or maybe some type of crab of some sort as stated above. A 2.5 gallon is hard to really have life in besides corals.

Maybe try to uprade to a 5 or 10 gallon.

Also, a couple hermits and snails always fascinated me when I first started.

you could put in a sun coral. they're not photosynthetic but do need to be target fed. i have a sun in my 2.5. to keep up water quality i put the sun in a different container for feeding.
