i am going to construct a auto-top off system for evaporation in my soon to be 125g. my question is, for things like iodine, strontium, etc. could you put these in small amounts in my top off system to dose while I top of the water? just a thought:)

You can put some things in it, but not certain combinations.
FWIW, I don't think either strontium or iodine need to be dosed, but that wasn't the question. :D
Iodine wouldn't be the best bet, as it may oxidize in the highly dilute state in top off water. Strontium is fine. Calcium is certainly OK, as is magnesium. If none of those is in it, then alkalinity can be dosed that way using baking soda.
My preference is to dose limewater in top off water, if you can dose it slowly enough.

The limewater (kalkwasser) alone might be enough, but a CaCO3/CO2 reactor is a fine way to go. :)
Good luck and happy reefing. :)
