I am setting up a frag tank (more like upgrading from a 15L), and would like to do it with T5s this time after I tested out a 4x54wattT5 fixture on a 40L. I am pondering which way to go here...

1. Tek 4x39wattT5. Would this be enough? Would I be able to convert the ballast to the IC660 if I wanted to later? I could also just go with a 30B because the only reason I went with 40B was so that the extra height might give me more flexibility with the T5s since they penetrate so well (perhaps too well). The tek hood looks slick.

2. DIY a hood with 4x IC SLR reflectors (better than tek's reflectors) and a then I can easily use a IC 660 to boost the output to 4x60wattsT5.

3. Tek 6x39wattT5. Trying to stick with less bulbs though.

Depends on what you want to frag, if SPS I would go with the 6.

Mostly SPS, but also LPS frags like open brain and bubble corals.

Hmmm. I wonder which is the better way to go here. The IC SLR reflectors seem to be better than the tek. And with the IC I can overdrive the 4 bulbs to be something like 240watts.

Does anyone know if I can rip out the ballasts in the tek and wire up a IC660 in its place?
