Like the title says, I have some chaeto to get rid of. I live in Arcadia and work in Pasadena/Eagle Rock area, so I can take it with me or you can pick it up at the house. I have a few bags full just sitting in water right now. I hate throwing it away so come and get it. Otherwise i'll need to dump it before it starts to stink.

I don't know much about chaeto...does it need light to grow? Does it need lots of light?

I don't know much about chaeto...does it need light to grow? Does it need lots of light? Probably want to read up on it first, but it does need light. If you have a sump/refugium with lighting for macroalgae then it will do great. This stuff is bullet proof and won't go sexual like caulerpa.

And I think caulerpa is illegal in California.

Does it need lots of light, or can I put an incandescent down there? I have an extra 32w pc actinic...would that work?

Hit Costco and buy the 65 watt outdoor llights of america for 9 bucks...
Grows that stuff like crazy.... I was growing plenty before but I recently had some hair type algae taking hold of the left side of my tank. I doubled the lighting with dual loa's and this is what Im pulling out weekly :D
Needless to say hair algae is 75% gone and dieing off fast.

HOLY CHAETO!!! WTH are you feeding that stuff to grow so much??? My fuge only produces about half that much a year even with the same lighting. How much flow do you have going through your sump?

New Orleans.
No doubt, that pile of chaeto looks like a flood left it behind, WOW :eek2:
Growing that much chaeto seems like it would take more than just light. Badmort, are you running a skimmer? Your chaeto looks like it's on steroids!

ROFL Nah.. Low flow, Good skimmer , only water that touches my tank is tds checked ,thats just how much Im getting with the dual loa's over a 40 gallon fuge. I have a very full main tank = )

I see alot of folks not growing the stuff as fast as they might because they have the lighting too far up... get that loa as close as possible and it will grow like mad
