nurse shark

i am looking to buy a nurse shark for a 1,200 gal in wall set up i am working on where would be the best plase to buy from.

Might want to delete this post before it get's ugly... Nurse sharks average 7-9 ft long and need a much larger tank then 1200 gallons...

However, Brown Banded Bamboo's look quite similar to a nurse shark when full grown and only get 39-40 inches, a few of these in a 1200 gallon species tank would be very cool.

i know nurse sharks were illegal for a few years becasue no one but public aquariums can house one. i agree on the brown banded that it woudl be way more appropriate.

If you did any kind of research at all you would know that that kiddie pool you bought will not be able to hold a 9ft shark. I suggust you get in the kiddie pool and drown yourself in it, better you than the shark!

I dont normally get mad about stupied things that prople post, but this is just crazy. The tank cant be over 12ft long, not to mention that it cant be over 6 feet wide. The shark would not be able to turn around! But I guess he could just sit in there and face one direction all his adult life!

I know a great place where you can get a whale shark, I'm sure you could fit him and a great white into that thimble of water!

That said....Keto: NO, don't do it.

Keto: If you have already purchased him, contact your nearest public aquarium (or the GA Aquarium) to donate the fish. If its over 4' you may get a tax credit...

Take the money you'd spend on the tank and shark and spend it visiting a public aquarium or see if you can get a "behind the scenes" tour. (some places offer them for uber passionate hobbyists/people who work w' fish, etc) You'll hopefully see some cool stuff and get an appreciation for why what you proposed wasn't a good idea.

most public aquarium will not take nurse sharks because to many people have done what you have listed above or worse yet about 6 months ago some dude brought in two I kid you not 2.5' nurse sharks that were in his 180 I felt so bad for those fish then the guy had the nerve to ask me to order another smaller nurse for him.

trOo! nurse sharks need to STAY IN THE OCEAN! there is no humane way to house one in your home. even a converted outdoor pool is too small. and yes we all know that they are a less active shark but come on!
if you like sharks stick to one that stays under 3 feet, anything over that is just plain cruelty!
