I Am in process of purchasing lighting for a 5ftx2ftx3ft Tank, I am contemplating purchasing a VHO system and or Metal Halide for a reef tank can I use both in combination or would it be over kill and is it a matter of personal experience as to which is best combo.
I am aware that the Metal Halide Lighting is able to provide a good spectrum.
Any ideas on make eg Aquamedic and 250/150

Lighting really depends upon what corals you want to keep. Tell us what you are interested in keeping and we can provide better options for you.

If this helps.. im getting a 250W MH to add to my 3VHOs for sps growth... Soft corals and lps coral do fine with my 3 VHOs... But the sps arent showing enough polyp extension IMO... BTW I have a 40 gallon 3ft long 2foot tall and 2 foot deep, roughly estimated...
