When you shine a flashlight into your reef after a couple of hours of darkness what kinds of things have you seen?

I Have a Peanut Worm that has been in my tank for at least two years! He may have been there longer, but I didn't know, until then, that I could shine a red beam in the tank at night and look at the life without it seeing me. I go "night-diving" all the time now with my red flashlight and a magnifying glass!

I have some corallimorphs that only like to open up at night, pods, and tons of bristle worms

I saw something pretty cool the other night. There was a white worm about 3 inches long swimming through the water. It looked like it was tying itself into a knot as it was swimming. Pretty cool until it got near my cleaner shrimp which lunged and caught it. The cleaner ate it in about one second.

does using a red light really work so the inhabitants can't see the light?

The red light works great. I bought one at lowes. It does not alarm anything in the tank

Yup...red light is the trick.

My tank is full of life at night....baby shrimp (or something like that)...worms...everyone else is asleep

I have a litle LED red keychain light. the only thing that can see it is my damsel, it wakes him up, then he runs and hides.

sounds like an epitoke. its part of how bristleworms reproduce.
