I just bought an "A Miracle Skimmer" body, that has one imperfection, one thing that is broken on it. Anyone have experience?
Why?
I have been contemplating making my own, after being inspired by the diy forums. It would be more like diwd (do it with dad) project anyway.
It was $20. I'm getting the pictures of it uploaded to photobucket as I type this...
I'm having two issues.
1. *feeling rather silly* .... I don't know how to put it together.
2. I don't know what the best pump or powerhead to run it would be.
3. I think I may fix it by replacing the broken acrylic with flexible tubing and sealing it... but if anyone has any other (and probably wiser) suggestions I would really appreciate it.
4. Are there any "mods" of improvement? heh.. you guys are going to be like, "you could improve by not buying one that was broken to begin with..."
And that's okay, because I can always take it back. :)

Picture for issue 1:
I have no idea what the object does on the right, or how to connect it.

These are the parts that came with it. The left most piece is the broken piece.

Picture for issue 3:
Internally, this is where the plastic has snapped from the ... other piece of plastic.

:D Thank you in advance.

OH...!
To explain in advance, why my tank is filled with brown water?

Garf mud was just added to my refugium at 11am today.

I'm pretty annoyed, mostly with myself. For a number of reasons... having someone else put it in when the package arrived, paying money for it, not just using sand for the mangroves... (and so on)
The pump has been off all day, but it hasn't cleared or settled much at all. I just got home from work and turned it on.... my pump does not sound good.

well, some of the parts in pic with the broken piece look to me like inlet parts for a whisper 60/40 filter. As far as the broken piece you may be able to super glue it back together or somehow remove the broken piece and replace it or take a trip to the nearest hardware store and pick up some pvc elbows and a short length of pvc pipe and replace that whole section thats broken that what I would try to do.As far as the rest of it Im not sure.

i agree the stuff u have looks like it is from two different things......some looks like its for a skimmer and some to a HOB of some sort

I agree also 4/5 of the stuff shown is from a power filter, Whisper or that type, the other looks like it is the intake pipe. I wouldn't think it would be hard to fix if you took it to the hardware store and matched up the tubing. Rigid clear tubing is available also at Creature Comforts.

If you are coming to the meeting bring them with you and we can see what we can do there.
Parts from Prizm Pro res sea skimmer there too.

good project and good deal too. You need a pump to pull the water to the skimmer and if you don't have the venturi part for it send me a PM and I have one for $5.. for some reasons champion sent me a bag of 20 of them with my last order and decided to keep them .

Thank you guys, I think I will bring it to the meeting zooqi. I appreciate everyone's help.

-My tank still has 1" visibility this morning. I can't believe the water column is still saturated with the mud. =/
I don't have ro/di so I have to get a whole lot of distilled water and see if I can clean it up by doing a bit of a water change. There's a coating on everything in my tank.

Years ago I used mudd in my systems and then I decided to get it out and I personally have better luck without it. Good luck with your water and using distiled water and carrying them is alot of work. If you want I can bring you enough water to the meeting and you just have to bring buckets so I can empty my jugs.

Word, Sherry. :)

LOL Thanks you again.

I could feasibly overpower this thing with the wrong pump, right?
On other websites it says that it comes with a Rio, should I try to find one of those? Or mod/upgrade?
I gotta get buckets myself, or I was thinking about those inflatable camping water things..
