I have a 54gallon corner bowfront reef. What kind of skimmer would you guys reccommend? I was looking at the seaclone 150 or the Prizm Deluxe. By, the way, I don't have a sump.

I have about the same water volume and looking for a skimmer too. I have a sump but it's a brute trash can with already 3 mags in the bottom... no place for a skimmer that needs to sin in sump. Looking forward to see sujestions too!

Don't get the seaclone or Prizm. Go with the coralife super skimmers. They cost a tiny bit more but work better.

what about the aquaC Remora? I read reviews on all kinds of hang ons and this looks the best.

I love the AquaC Remora Pro. It can produce some great skimmate when broken in. :)

BEST HOT skimmer (by a mile) is the Deltec MCE600. It does cost more than the others, but it is worth it.

I put a Coralife Super Skimmer 125 on my 54g last month.

Here is a big thread on the CSS line, lots of happy users.

I like the Aqua C remora as well.

Also like CPR Bak Paks...they have newer models that are both a refugium and a skimmer...that would be good

I love my aqua c remora. It has been working great.....just don't buy the seaclone.

I have a seaclone and it works fine. Do NOT get the prizm. Worst skimmer I have ever had in any of my tanks, hands down.

I ordered a CSS 65 yesterday night... Cheap and I heard good comments about it. I could've got the 125 but it was almost twice the price. Well I'll give it a try.

The Coral Life Skimmers look interesting. I have a problem with space in my 20g high sump for my 40g. Would hanging it on a sump work?

Never mind. It appears from the link I can do so. Does that go for other skimmers as well?

Some do and some don't... Just look at the specs. I plan on hanging mine on my sump since there is no space in the bottom and it's pretty deep also... Hanging will do.

Are you looking for a hang on skimmer or do you have a sump that you can put one in?

I have a 20 high sump and would like to add a refugium at some point but with a skimmer in it that will be impossible. That's why I'd like to hang it the skimmer.

If you can afford it go with the deltec mce600 I make the remora pro seem like a seaclone It willcost you around $440 but it is well worth it. These is no hugh ugly pump hanging down in the tank like the remora. You would have to have two or three remora pro's to do the same as the deltec

Go with the Aqua c. They are great. The reviews are also very good

I use the prism deluxe with the surface skimmer and couldn't be happier. It takes some tinkering with but once you get it set right it works like a charm. I wouldn't use for anything over a 75g. The surface skimmer is nice because it keeps the surface pretty clean and is not overwhelming huge in the tank.

AquaC Remora with MJ 1200 would be my first choice. I have several of them on my smaller systems ( 38 - 180 gallons)

I have a 55 standard and after running a skimmer for years decided to run it without one.

Did this about 5 years ago and my tank looks great. As good as it did with the skimmer.

I don't seem to have any more problems than those that have skimmers- from what I read on this forum.

Do a search on skimmerless tanks before spending money on a skimmer.

Check out Eric's forum on this site.

Those running skimmerless aren't the oddballs anymore - at least not for that reason! :-)

Harbour,

Did your ORP or oxygen levels change when you went skimmerless?

I have now gone through a few Skimmers due to me not thinking that each one was good enough but after having used the Remora, Prizm and the Seaclone, IMO, they are all very similar and seems that each of them takes a little bit of tinkering to make them work just right. I havent tried any of the expensive skimmers but I have found very little difference in the quality of skimming once each is messed with to the point of getting good goo out of my tank. I will say that I ended up tinkering with the Seaclone the most but in the end, it worked just as good as the next.

You won't regret your AquaC remora decision.
