Fish only tank question

I plan on setting up 46 bow front reef. As I wait for the water to cycle, I want to start a fish only tank which I will use for quarantine tank later.

Once I get my RO/DI unit, I will make fresh water, add salt and check for water stability. How long do I need to cycle my FO tank? What else do I need to do to my quarantine tank before adding fish?

You want to wait until the Ammonia and Nitrite are zero before you add anything. When you d add anything add one thing at a time.

Cycle times vary. Sometimes it could take a few days, few weeks or a month or two.

And wait at least a few weeks to a month before you add anything else. One thing at a time.

I don't recommend using a 46 gallon tank as a qt. Too difficult to maintain.
