i have a 10g set up as reef

i'm currently using only a red sea prizm skimmer..no mechanical/biological filtration

for lighting...im using a PC 48w dual lighting actinic and white...

15lbs of live and live sand a heater and rio 90 pump for water circulation....

do i really need the mechanical/biological filtration?

live rock=biological filtration

skimmer=mechanical filtration

that being said, the prizm is rather infamous on R/C & NR.com.

i'd add more flow, but it depends on what you want to keep in there.

remora is good...but is a lot of skimmer for a 10g. not that i believe in the overskimming myth, but that may be overkill.

CPR Bakpak gets mixed reviews.

Current Fission is new, it has some design flaws IMO, but seems like it could be a fairly effective skimmer.

ASM has a new nano skimmer out. i don't know a whole lot about it, its a little pricey, but i'm not sure how well it works.

Tunze also has a nano skimmer out, but i have no clue about it.

and there's always DIY.

HTH

are you referring to this? now, how do these skimmers work? im particularly looking for something that i can hang to behind the tank...remora looks good becoz its very skinny and it would fit in my tank...

I'd say just keep using the prism skimmer. Water changes are the primary method of maintaining water quality in a nano, the skimmer is just fine for backup. If the skimmer is your only flow you may want to add a small powerhead or two though.

As said the rock is your biological filtration.

I think you're good to go............

i have a rio 90 that pumps 85gph...is this too much/strong for a 10g?

Shouldn't be too much flow, depends on the corals.

I use the same powerhead in a ten gallon tank of soft corals, in addition to a 300 gph HOB filter. However in my LPS tank the same flow would probably be too much.

i have 2 polyps, 2 zooanthids and a seabae anemone...i was told that you cant mix an anemone and corals becoz they live in different habitats...true?...

Absolutely not. My tank gets a 20% water change weekly. Thats it. Sorry for no pics. I really do have one, it's just being re-built, including the stand. Pics soon, I just got it all together yesterday.
