My tank is a little high 1.027 and wanted to know if I take some water out will it lower it?

Or do i have to take some water out and add ro/di?

The salinity or specific gravity is a measurement of the total elements contained (basic 7 salts that make SW).

When you do a water change you must replace the same amount of water at the same level of SG.

When water evaporates from the systems, these minerals stay behind and you must replace that with treated fresh water.

In the case of lowering your SG from .027 (which isn't bad) you need to remove some tank water and replace it with treated fresh water.

There is no reason to treat it IF it is RO water.

You should be using fresh water NOT salt water for top off but you knew that.

Reef Aquaria Recommendation
Salinity 35 pptsg = 1.026

Typical Surface Ocean Value
34-36 ppt sg = 1.025-1.027

Dwayne,
RO is a type of treatment.

My point was not straight from the tap.

Well I took it as you wanted them to treat the water with a chemical. You need to make yourself more clear ;)
