I think it's probably the best overall autotopoff I've used. The only other thing comparable is the topoff system that you can setup with the IKS computer, but that's even more $$.

It uses an IR eye that is very, very precise and reliable. The pump is sort of a cheapy, but it is very cheap to replace so...

I like it.

I love mine, it is well worth the money.

Got 1 on my 65reef and the 29grow out tank and love em. Makes going away for a weekend less of a worry even though neighbor still checks on em.
Have the 7 gal containers for the top off water so they can go a couple days without needing refilling. Will probably get another to go on my 90 (or 120) when completed.
Pumps are cheapy but like moonpod said they are cheap to replace if needed but do pump fluid pretty good

I have been using one as well. I like it alot. Very reliable and I use it to add kalk water to my tank. Pump has been working for a year. Replacement pumps are under $20.

Optical switch and a float if you want to try and diy one.

I have one on my 120 and it works great. I run kalkwasser in my topoff water and the pump that comes with it has been working for a year now. No problems. Very reliable and has safety float switch as a precaution. But the electronic eye works great. Its from Tunze it has to be the best.

Would I put this system in my sump or in the main tank? Im thinking the sump correct?

*******

Sensors are in the sump as you said and pump is in you water storage container. I have my top-off line going into the main tank since its dosing kalk mix. It drops into the water in front of my sump return line so it mixes pretty quick with the tank water.
I`m sure others do it different but this has worked best for me. Although the top-off line has a anti-siphon valve on it(tunze calcium reactor also added) I would not put the top off line directly in the water as you risk a siphon since its higher than the osmolator pump

DonW,

Did you make that? A schematic would be a nice touch...How are you using an optical switch?

Its diy the photo/ optical switch is a npn transister and the float is just standard float switch. Mine runs through a automation system so no schematic.
Tunze just got the idea from industrial level control industy.
