Ok, what do you think of this?

I was thinking of setting up a 10 gal sump/fuge ( can't afford a 20 long) to go with a 55 gal tank. The sump/fuge is only to act a a nutrient removal system using chaeto, mangrove and deep sand band. I understand the factor of flow, light and it's effect on the growth and usefulness of the macro. I intend to have 250 to 300 gph going through it. One question on that though, is the gph through the sump by means of the return pump or by means of the dissplay tank gravity drain to sump? What is everyone view on this?

hey
any size sump will benifit your tank.that's why larger tanks are usually more stable.and things grow faster.

Ok, thanks. That is what I was thinking, but I do hope to upgrade sometime in the future to a bigger sump/fuge.

I would not go with mangrove in the sump with other macro algae because they don't grow as fast and don't host as much bugs as mangrove. You have to have thick mangrove roots for bugs to grow. As for fuge you need low water flow like you have it set.. with saltwater aquarium is addiciton many try to be bigger soonr that later and jump to bigger aquarium.

Ok mangrove is gone, will stick with just chaeto and flow will stay as I inteded it at the begining. Now I just have to find a used pump. I will use a rubbermaid for the sump/fuge.

Oh, Mo I am on my way to HD now and will start that stand today. I should be done with all but the skin and molding by tomorrow. The kids are very excited ( but I think I am more than them).

sounds good and good luck building that and we will arrange sometimes in a week to meet. I do have a costumer I have to come and see sometimes soon and I can bring the stuff with me.
