I was wondering if anyone has tried this DIY: http://w3page.com/fishline/gif/fdoser.gif?. I'd like to know what you think of that design, thanks!

Well, you are putting a lot of trust in that little check valve. If it fails and the power goes off you have a lot of backflow.
