Hey for all you DSB people in nanos. I just started my 12g aquapod and have 40lbs live sand with 12 pounds of live rock. What do you guys recommend for sifters and cleaners?

If you want a "real DSB" you don't need sifters you need only stirrers. About 3 nassarius snails should do the trick in that tank, maybe some cerith snails too, but i wouldn't add more than 6 altogether. Feed lightly and you might wanna consider a DSB recharge kit to start the DSB critter population. HTH

Don't want to get into a dsb debate. I had one and after a while it started to look nasty. I thought it was disgusting.
I now have a little sand on top of my faux sand bed.

I agree with you carl, It does tend to look nasty after a while. I don't see the point in it in a nono, doesn't it take up to much water valume in that small of a tank to be worth it? I'm not trying to diss or anything, i'm just cerious.

BTW sweet thank though :D

DSBs are reported as ineffective in a nano reef system. However, there is a great thread on RDSBS, remote DSB's in a 5 gallon bucket that is reportedly excellent at denitrification. I would remove some sand from that tank. SH

It's just a canon a520 on the underwater macro setting

i've read any DSB in tanks smaller than 29 gallons are pointless becasue they cannot contain the ecosystem and invertabrate life nessisary for the nitrate elimination at all. Just what I picked up from Dr. Rons article, and the reason I went SSB, my detrious trap... lol

Agreed...with such a nice setup, you don't want to tee yourself up for a crash. SH
