View Full Version : Phosban Reactor - restrict inflow or outflow?

I got a phosban reactor for christmas, I will be running carbon in it. It comes with a valve for flow control, should I put this in the line going to the reactor or coming out of it?

Thanks, and happy holidays everyone!

I run two of them off a single mj400. I restrict the flow going into the reactor and it works great so far.

The manufacturer says not to restrict flow on the output because it can cause the unit to develope leaks.

Agreed - restrict inflow not outflow as this unit isn't adept at handling pressure of any kind.

restrict inflow... they give you a control valve in the kit.

Thanks everyone!

Input it is! The input seems the most logical, but I wanted to ask because I read an article on camcium reactors recently and it suggested to restrict output - I wasnt sure if that would carry over to these as well.

So do I

MJ400->valve->in-reactor1(carbon)-out->in-reactor2(Rowaphos)->out
The only thing is when I first start it up, the MJ400 doesn't have enough umph to push the air out and get it started. I temporarily hook up a MJ900. Once it is going, put the Mj400 back on. I run the Mj400 ~ 3/4 open.

I run a MJ1200 to a 'Y' then run the reactors in parallel.

Arent you suppose to run a 400 for 1 reactor?

I'm sorry I meant an mj600...

I run mine the same way as you off the 600. My ROWA's tumble just fine and I get plenty of flow through the carbon. I use both valves the one on my carbon reactor is wide open and the one on my ROWA reactor is half open.

Running off one pump in series or parallel plumbing will both work. You dont need much for GPH for these setups.

what kind of Y fitting are you using? is it barbed? what size?
