It is not completely unheard of for Mandarins to eat processed foods.
I have owned a few over the past 25yrs.
I always ask to see a fish eat before I purchase the specimen. With Mandarins I insist on seeing it eat processed foods.

I've never lost one yet to starvation and they have all grown to a ripe old age.

Good Luck,
Ed

Mine loooooves cyclopeeze, he gets under the turkey baster just to receive a shower of cyclops!! He also loves other frozen foods but his favorite by far is cyclopeeze.

My mandarine loves mysis shrimp. He waits around the front of the tank towards feeding time and picks around at pods. Once I pour the shrimp in letswaits for them to drop to the bottom and eats them. I ahve actually seen him swim halfway up the tank (24") to get a shrimp though. I was very happy to see this and he is getting very fat. I am considering getting a second one now, a female. He might teach her to eat frozen foods too.
