I have seen my fish lately appear to be breathing faster and more quick to jump around and hide when i get near. what would be causing this?

Lots of things can stress fish. the first thing I would do is check the water parameters.

the water params as of 5 mins ago are as follows:

Nitrate-undetectable
Nitrite- 20mg/l
Phosphate- 1.0 mg/l
Ph-8.2
Salinity-1.025
Temp-79.7
Ammonia-undetectable
Akalinity- 9.8 DKH

Also I have to clean the glass on my tank more often due to more rapidly reoccuring brown algae and i have been using biowheels for the past 9 months and about to change to a sump and take them off but are they contributing in anyway? Also how can i solve any other param problems i have

Looking at what you have, I am curious as to why you have any nitrites. How old is the tank? Something may have caused it to recycle. Did you always have nitrites the last time you tested your water?

Hopefully you switched nitrates and nitrites. Nitrites at 20 is bad.

no i'm sure i got it right but i'm not sure what would have casued nitrites. This tank has been running since like March of this year, how can i lower nitrites?

either like what was mentioned,,reversed readings or your test kit is probably bad.

how many fish do you have and have you added anything recent?
do you quarantine?

water changes is one way to lower them, reduce feeding, skim more

phosphates at 1.0 is bad too
i would try to lower them down to at least 0.25

alright i think i can get the nitrates lowered now becasue i messed wih my protwin skimmer and reliezed it hadn't been working. so that will help the nitrates but how do i get rid of the phosphate

Water Changes, refugium, good skimmer. I would wait it out since you got a skimmer on the tank.
