Does the speed of the memory card have to do with how fast the camera saves the prictures or views them or what? I have a Canon A520...not sure what speed card is a decent quality.

Only if your camera takes advantage of it. Dunno bout Canon A520. RTFM. Most likely not for point and shoot type camera.

Having said that, when I bought my 1 GB memory for my Canon S500 3 years ago, I went ahead with the High Speed type Compact Flash anyway. Why ?

a) High Speed memory will still give you the following
images transfer faster from camera to computer using a memory card reader

b) you can use the faster card in other electronic equipment

c) plan to use the faster card with a future camera

For that camera I don't think you will see much of a difference between a slower and faster card. But like oz said why not go for a faster one, it wont hurt.

Here is a 2gb card that I just picked up for my Canon 10D, it seems to be a great card and its under $100.

it depends on the camera. For example my Nikon d70 can take 3 pictures a second. That is only if you have high speed memory though.
