Anyone have DIY plans for moon lighting a reef. I would like to simulate the lunar cycle if possible. I have an Octopus 3000, so I can at leat control turning them on and off. What kind of lights do I need? Can I do it myself? How can I make it more like the actual lunar cycle? Thanks for you help.

Well I'm no expert in any sense of the word, but I've read that for night time veiwing you can install black lights and NO flourescense with red slide covers on. The organisms can't see or don't react to the light in those spectrums so they act as though it were night time. The black light isn'tvery naturall but it makes your corals glow quite nicely and and is said to be beneficial in some way. If you want to go the natural route there is something called a moon light that you can get thru petsolutions. Its said to generat the same wavelength that the moon does but is quite expensive or you can install 40w blue incandescent bulbs in your hood. its really up to you.
