Hello everyone!!!

I'm looking for some advise on External overflows. I need one that will flow about 1000gph... any help would be really helpful thx

Basically I'm upgrading my sump to a 55G sump/fuge setup and will have a Mag 12 running as a return/ Fuge feed.

First thing I'll say is that is too much sump flow. I would not do that. If you want to run that much, the only external overflow I would recommend that will actually flow that much is the 1400 GPH Lifereef (http://www.lifereef.com/siphon.html)

Thanks for the Reply.

What would you say would be a good flow for a 55g sump?

I'd stick with the Mag7 you are running now. You are running it unrestricted with 1" plumbing?

I have it plumbed with 3/4 and with only a flare nozzle. Will the mag 7 be enough to used as a return and feed the fuge?

300-500gph sump turnover is about where you want to be.

Yes, the Mag7 is fine for that. If you want to increase the flow a bit change that plumbing to 1". Make sure that flare nozzle is not too small and restrictive.

Thanks for the advise... That's exactly what I'm trying to do. I'm going BB and I'm tring to increase the flow.

Increase the flow in your display, not in your sump. Again, to get the max out of the Mag7 you have, plumb the vertical as far as you can with 1". When you go into the display with the nozzles, be sure they are not restricting the flow (to small or not enough).

If you are still toying with the Overflow you can look at hurricanefilters.com. They make a 1200 gal an hour model. I am running a Quiteflow 600 on my 55 gal reef with no problems.

That Quietflo 1200 wont actually do 1200 GPH, nor will the 600 do 600 GPH.

Never tested my 600 for max flow just said what the site said.

I would say Lifereef is the only HOB that can actually flow what is advertised. I had an Amiracle before the LR. Nice reliable overflow, but could barely keep up with a Mag5. Could not keep up with a Mag7. The LR laughs at the Mag7.
