Hi Jakes!

Even though Scott beat me to it...

<img src="/images/welcome.gif" width="500" height="62"><br><b><i><big><big>To Reef Central & A.C.R.O.S. !</b></i></big></big>

BTW, Scott forgot to mention that the initiate (that's YOU, Bubba!) must first learn the secret password and handshake before we can allow you to enter the sacred halls. After entering the halls, you must pass the Gauntlet of ACROS which consists of numerous questions of reefkeeping... answer right, rewards are great... answer wrong... ... ... :uzi: :eek1: :blown: :fun2: ... ... ... you get the picture.

Oh yeah, one last thing, before running the Gauntlet, the newbie (again, that's YOU, Bubba!) has to provide all the pizza/wings and beer (I prefer Miller Genuine Draft... ice cold, if you please :D ) for the present members to toast his/her acceptance into the fold (if you survive) or to celebrate your wake (in case you don't). :lmao:
Either way, just as long as I can score some free food and brew.

Hope you can make it to this month's little gathering. It'll be a pleasure to meet you.

Until later,
Larry

Hey Jake, don't let Larry scare you it's not all that hard...To put a title under your screen name you need to have like 500 posts or something like that..I have been in Animal Crackers a number of times, nice store that has been around a long time. You guys do real good with birds I know.
Our meetings really consist of getting together at a members house and viewing there setup and the way they run there reef...We usuallyhave some snacks and it is nice to see the members every month or so. For future we are going to try to do some other events yet to be announced...

Awwww, man! :( No free beer? :sad1: You take all the fun outta it, Scott... you're meaner than my ex-wives. :p :lmao:

Seriously Jake, it's nice to have you aboard. As you will find, we're a pretty laid back and sometimes crazy :wildone: group of reefers that enjoy our hobby (obsession) immensely.

Looking forward to meeting you next Saturday.

AAww Larry, you know there is always free beer at my meetings...But we must take the younger generation under our wings and show them what upstanding people we are...
Jake i'll be sure to quizz you when I come up with a que..Maybe I will meet you next time we stop in Animal Crackers...
Jake, maybe you can help us understand more about you by telling us alittle about your 39 gallon reef. What kind of fish, corals do you maintain? What is your system comprised of? Do you run BB or DSB? What kind of lighting? Do you run a fuge? Do you grow macros? What do you use for nutrient export? Do you run a skimmer? What kind of salt do you use? Do you use RODI as make up water? These are just a few examples of things that we look at when a person hosts a meeting and everyone is looking at there setups.

Hello and welcome.

If your planning on going to the meeting on the 17th I have a CPR 100 flow box for sale or trade. only thing you would need then is a 10g setup and a return pump.

what could i put in a ten gal sump?

ladybug_Montreal

In a 10g sump you can put in some rubble rock, macro algea, and your return pump. The 10g will only be filled up about 1/2 way, this will give you room when the power goes off, for excess water to back wash in. Also this is a good place to add your makeup water and let it mix, andin there you can keep a few snails, and it's a great breeding ground for other useful critters.

I have a 10g sump, set up this way, not expensive, it only has the cheap incondesent light hood, with the 50/50 bulb. makes a great night light.

would you need baffles in the sump for bubble rebuction?

ladybug_Montreal
12/12/2005, 04:37 PM
Ok here is what I did on my 10g sump.

rubble rock on about 1/2 length, this is where the water drains from main tank into sump.

then wal-mart has in it is craft/sewing section some plastic that is used for embroidery, this is used to section off the rubble rock from the return pump.

Between the rubble rock, the micro algea, and the plastic I am not getting any bubbles back into my main tank from here.

I guess you can use the baffles.....but I am not that handy with a glue-gun.

hey agu,
what is that water bottle for?
and how does that over flow work?
that would be a perfect sump for my 39 no?

Agu

what is that water bottle for?

It's a kalk dripper/topoff, further details here,

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-06/nftt/index.php

and how does that over flow work?

It's an external durso overflow. Tank was drilled with a dremel. If I were to do it again I'd build an internal overflow box because it's tough to regulate water height with my setup. More pics here,

that would be a perfect sump for my 39 no?

For a larger tank the left chamber with the return pump should be larger. All you evap is reflected in that chamber and if it's not large enough your return pump will suck air if too much water evaps. i'm using a fairly low flow pump as a return (maxi 1200) and topping off daily so it's not an issue.

Agu thank you

I never knew how much calk to mix into a 1g jug.
