anyone had success with with a clam-bed filter

I have wanted a clam bed, for a long time now. And I don't know why, I just do. my thought was to make a small 12x12'' six inch deep acrylic tank, fill it with fine sand, and something like 10 clams then plumb it into the sump. what do you think

An LFS here in town is doing the exact same thing, They are setting up something like a 8 foot by 4 foot, by 3 foot (tall) tank, with a very shalow (1 foot tall) 4 foot by 4 foot clam lagoon, it looks like it will be really cool when they get it running.
