Hey just wondering what is going on with my frogspawn. I have had it for about 9 months and have never scene this. Just as I was about to turn off the lights I saw this fly by the front of the tank. Just curiuos if the flow might have busted if off or what?

I've had that happen too. I thought it's a way for them to reproduce by self fragging

Can be flow, causing tentacles to twist and break off, but it seems normal for them to do this occasionally. As long as it doesn't happen a lot, don't worry.

It doesn't seem to be reproduction, since the pieces don't survive, although that may only be true in captivity. The only other purpose I can think of is it being a way to attack other corals, but that may be an inadvertant byproduct.

What type of fish do you have? I had a blue tang that would nip at a frogspawn and xenia.

2 false percs, 1 purple firefish and 2 neon gobies. If any one is nipping at my coral it is the smaller of the two percs. Recently he has been very territorial with my shrimp. He naps in my frilly mushrooms and my cup coral and the frogspwn is in the middle.

sometimes, the clown fish will attach corals, when they want to host in them.

My percs are tramps. They move from the frilly mushrooms to my cup coral from day to day.

Keep an eye on your clowns, it is possible. I would agree with Nicole's idea also.

Mine does that too, the peices usually end up stuck in my Plate Coral. Nothing to worry about in my opinion.
