I originally purchased 2x14k hamiltons 250w SE because i did not plan on actinic supplementation. Now that I have 220W of VHOs I would like to try the 10k XMs.

Would anyone want to trade?

I am running 250 xm 10K with 220wt vho actinic because it was too blue with two actinics. Trust me you won't like it. It's a bit yellow. And I ran two 14k prior to this too. I had to supplement the 14k hammy with 1-10kk vho and 1-actinic.

Just stay with the Hammy and replace one actinic vho with 10k and you will be fine. My tank is very similiar to yours in dimensions. Hope that helps somewhat.

Hamilton 20K works great for me. With the 20K, I don't have to use the Actinic like Tetra.

Here's a few pix to show how it looks like. Full tank shot.

Some color variations of the corals under 20K.

At least I don't know how to photoshop, Vpham!

gooliver,

Good choice. If I had some references before, I would have not gone with XM 10K, too yellow.

I'm running a XM 10K 175W with 220W PC atinic and it looks great I think. If your getting a yellow color, try doing a large water change. ;) I've noticed that after a water change, say 40%, mine looks more blue/white and less of the yellowing effect.

I've also got coralvue 20K 400W and a hammy 14K 400W DE on my big tank as well as Pheoinx 150W 14K DE on a grow out tank. The XM and atinics are the brighest and have a nice color, the hammy 14K looks good w/ no atinics but dosen't look as bright as the 175 10K XM. The 14K pheoinx looks the best but still is not as bright as the 10K. The 20K's are just not bright enough for a 3' deep tank.

I think I'm going to go with the Hammy 14K on the big tank as it will also be getting Natural sunlight so that should brighten it up some. I'll use PC atinics on it for dawn/dusk lighting but just the Mh during the midday.

He's doing good. Even though he seems so small compared to the other fish, he's out and eating fine. He still hangs out near the rocks that he sleeps in and will run into them when the big guys come around. However they don't bother him.

How's the zoo's looking?

Hopeing to have the room ready to move the tank in after the first of the year. It all depends on how much I can get done during the holidays.

Here's the thread I started on it with some pic's in it.

175 is a little less intense than 250...so yours isn't as yellow as mine. I see your point and done that already and running carbon, phosban and ozone!:D

Stop splilling the beers into the tank while you're drinking and looking, then you'll be fine. No need to run carbon or do 40% water change.
