in the last month or so i ave about 50-100 small featherdusters showing up in tank i have not noticed any real problems but was not sure if they are good or bad for my tank has anyone else had this problem ? if bad how do i get rid of them ?

It's not necessarily a bad thing, they are not detrimental creatures. Just filter feeders. You are seeing them in large numbers because they must be well fed. :)

If you want to remove them they should be easy enough to scrap off when you are doing a water change. I've used my syphon hose to just scrape them off and remove them. Works well for me. To keep them away get better control on your water parameters and nutrients. If you are feeding phytoplankton stop or cut back.

I have them in both my tanks. 45 & 55 gal's. They are a wonderful and free. A good sign that your tank is healthy.

Are you sure those are featherdusters? Can you post a picture?

I have them as well. As Amy said it's because there's a lot of nutrients in your tank. At first I didn't like them, but I soon gave in.

Hi,

Can you sell a dozen or two to me and ship them priority mail?

I have a few in my tank and are numerous in my sump and bottom of my skimmer. I see them as free help. If they are exploding due to nutrient load, then look at them as doing you a favour. Better them than the dreaded HAIR!

Good job. Sounds like your tank is doing well!

I usually have too many to count, some years they completely cover areas under rocks, and sometrimes they are scarce. They do no harm and are probably beneficial.

Don't worry about them. I have a thousand or so in my sump. They just spread on the glass.
