View Full Version : Potters Angel has a white "film" blotch on him, any ideas (pics)

Potters angel went in 2 days ago and there is a film like white colored patch forming on his left side. his breathing is very heavy and it does not appear to be ich. him and my trigger had a spout to establish pecking order but now everything seems fine. not eating yet need some ideas as to how i might entice him to eat have tried F/1 frozen - Krill - F/2 flake but no response yet. anyone deal with this fish ????

I can't tell much from your pictures. But, this time of year and with a Hawaiian specimen, Brooklynella is a possibility. Look for images on the internet of Brooklynella for comparison. If it is Brook, a formalin bath would be in order.

wow 2 days in the tank and he's a gonner , water params are all good but this guy just didnt make it

Sorry to hear that Jsn. Let the tank run fallow for a month before you add any other fish. Then see Steve's articles on Quarantine Tanks (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-10/sp/feature/index.php).

this will sound newbieish but what is fallow ?

Fallow means without fish. Generally with most fish diseases, if you deprive them of a host (fish) they die out after some time. One to two months without a host is good for most things.

the tricky part is catching all the fish in a 150 w/220lbs of LR

That is why Steve is such a strong advocate of Q-tanks. He figures that if you add only disease free specimens to your display you'll never need to play "Sea Hunt" with your display tank's inhabitants.

BTW- Fallow also means unable to bear children in a biblical sense. ;)
