Judging interest for a West LA/Westside/Westwood/UCLA frag swap [Archive]

Someone did this two years ago and I heard it turned out well (I couldn't attend). But since I already know there's a few RC people in the area and I'm sure some people wouldn't mind driving out, who would be interested in a smaller scale swap probably early next year? I wouldn't mind opening up my apartment and we could sell/trade/mingle. Let me know and hopefully something could be planned.

Sounds good. Westwood area is a lot closer than any of the other swaps I've seen so far. Even from Bakersfield, 1.5hr is better than the 2-2.5hrs anywhere else. pls post another thread if this takes off and I'll see if my schedule and wife permit it :)

More along the lines of a local get to know you thing, if you guys think that Marina del Rey isn’t too far, my girlfriend(LPSGirl) and I were thinking we would like to meet with other local reefers.

We were thinking Sunday is the Superbowl but we have no plans for Saturday, we could open our apartment up for a barbeque. Short notice and all, but just checking what you think.

We are not really set up for a swap, but we just had our brand new 225G tank delivered and would like to get opinions/advice from other people.

Anyone interested in some dogs, burgers, and beer(or other beverage) can PM myself and/or LPSGirl.

I guess I made a small error in my last post by forgetting the time. We were thinking of 12 to whenever. We are mainly looking to meet other reefers in the area and get some additional ideas for our new tank. We don't have a yard, but do have a small patio and a spare bedroom that has no bed at this time. If anyone had something they wanted to try to trade or sell you can bring it along. We just dont have tables, or a huge amount of space. If anyone has questions about what we can or can't do, post in the thread, if you want to come send a pm to either of us and we will send the address.

I also would be interested in attending as I am not too far. Any chance of doing this on another day as I work on Saturdays. Perhaps the following Sunday so my frags could be mounted and encrusting by then???

I wish I could have given more notice, but any other weekend we will be in Mammoth and can't do it here. Maybe this can inspire a more regular gathering on the Westside. Why should OC and the Valley have all the fun?

Here's what I have and can bring:

2 mounted frags of Tyree LE umbrella/ toadstool leather.

2 mounted frags of green polyp brown body sinularia

2 - 4 head frags of neon green candy canes. each head opens to about a quarter size.

Few mounted frags of true blue mushrooms.

Few mounted frags of super red mushrooms.

Few mounted frags of striped blue mushrooms.

I also have some SPS frags and possibly a couple of small colonies. A couple of brown colonies too that I have in my office. Had nice bright colors in them but just didn't have enough light in the tank. They're healthy and have good polyp extension. Good light and tank parameters should color them up.

We are going to have dogs and burgers and some beer. If you want to bring something that you want or what to make sure there is enough beer, or whatever else you might like to drink. We will also have some soda, but our intake is limited to diet coke and caffeine free coke(for cocktails) If you want chips or something it would be great if you want to bring some.

I think having a Westside trade is a great idea. A consistent one would be great too, someone should organize something regular....wish I could make Sat. trade but no go for me....

I do understand the importance to hit snow though Drewcipher....Mammoth runs will take precedence! :D I'm hitting Tahoe next week...woohooo! Anyway props to you for hosting this weekend swap...organise some more in the future!

I'm going to try to make it. I have a lunch meeting, and then I would have to go home to pick up frags. So, I would be coming late. Have bright green with purple edge and orange caps. Also have a stag from Dave, blueish brown with blue tips. Big frags of Bali green slimer. Tricolor. Couple others. Any interest?

Hey Drew and Michelle,

Thank you for being such a gracious host. It was a small group but it was nice getting to know you all. I also love the true swap and non-commercial environment. I don't think anyone had to take their wallet out. Everything was either traded or given away. Thanks again and hope to see you all again.

Please share some pictures of the the tank's progress. I'm sure you guys will be busy for a while.

I'm sorry I couldn't make it. I too would be very interested in another swap. Anyone want to volunteer their place to host such an event in the future? I would offer my place, but my measly 50 gallon wouldn't be all that interesting compared to the 225. It would be nice to set it up in advance so that people would be able to work their schedules around to make it.

Had to go car shopping with my wife. Her car went kaboom on Friday. We had no choice but to shop for a new car for her. Had fun driving a couple new cars though...IS 250 was awsome.

Yeah, it is a VERY nice car. When we got there, they had only 1 red IS250 there with Navigation. When we left 2 hours later, it is also sold. It is so hot there is no way to talk to the salesguy for any discounts, of course. For the color and Navitation package that my wife wanted, it'll take about 3 - 4 weeks of wait time with down payment of $500.

Since my wife needs a new car urgently, we also have our eyes on the Acura TSX. A very nice car at a very nice pricetag and they also have the color that she wanted. So she might settle for TSX instead. But I have to admit it is not nearly as nice as the IS250, of course.

My friend is the manager at lexus and I can get you a discount. When my buddy shopped around for his the best he could find was $500 less then sticker. My friend gave it to him for $2200 off. LMK I think he paid about 37k fully loaded out the door.
