Anyone heard of the Georgia Aquarium? It's opening later this month and they claim it as the world's largest aquarium. Might be worth visiting!
"The Georgia Aquarium opens on November 23rd and will stake its claim as the World’s Largest Aquarium. With over 8 million gallons of fresh and marine water, and 100,000 animals representing 500 species from around the globe, you’re sure to see things you’ve never seen before!"

looks nice. The Today SHow will broadcast live on Nov 21th. That way we can see how they are doing.

Its supposed to be the biggest aquarium in the world. 8+million gallons and 100,000+fish, 2 whale sharks, beluga whales, otters, penguins. It is open on the 21st for season ticket holders and then opens to the public on the 23rd (right before thanksgiving).

How big is the Baltimore National Aquarium? Looking at the map of the Georgia aquarium, the B-more one looks bigger.
Hopefully the Georgia aquarium isn't one huge 7 million tank with the whales and the rest small little tanks.

It pretty much is.... 6.2M I believe.
It will also have one of the largest living reef exhibits. I wouldn't call the remaining 1.8 million gallons a bunch of small tanks. :)
Keep in mind that the second largest aquarium in the United States is only half the size of this one.

I was just exaggerating an example to get my point across. :D
What's the second largest in the world? Jamesurq said the Bmore aquarium is about 6.2 million gallons.
I also remember seeing a tv show on what I thought was suppose to be the world's largest aquaium, located in Spain.
Well the Shed is supposedly the second largest in the US, not 2nd in the world.

I think the aquarium in Okinawa is the 2nd biggest in the world.

No - What I was indicating is that the Atlanta one has 1 large tank and a bunch of "smaller" tanks.

I have been to both the Shedd and the Baltimore Aquariums and I felt like the Baltimore Aquarium was a waste of time comparatively. The Shedd was much nicer with alot more to see, they had quite a few live coral exhibits plus things like Beluga whales, penguins, and many other interesting critters and fish. We didn't even bother to look at the FW stuff because we spent so much time with the SW exhibits. When we went to the Baltimore Aq. we basically walked right through the place, there just wasn't nearly as much to see.
BTW according to the Today show the large tank at the Georgia Aquarium is 6.1 million gallons.
