Hello,

I have a 180 sps only tank with about 40 colonies with a 55 gallon sump/fuge.

I already have an asm g3 skimmer, and wanted to know if I should add another one. I have noticed that I have a lot of nutrients in the water, and feel that I am vastly underpowered in the skimmer department. Do you think the addition of another G3 would work.

I would add a larger skimmer, but the footprint of my sump does not allow me to upgrade to a G4x or a G5.

TIA,

cubuffs

I don't think they make the G4X now, just the G4 plus.

Make sure you're modding them for gatevalves so you can control the water height in the body.

I'm sure two G3's would do nicely.

My single G3 does a good job on my 125, I am sure 2 would suffice on a 180.

I ran 2 G3s on my 240 gallon system, and found that I was running into loss of color in my SPS due, I believe, to overskimming.
I run just the one now, and the corals look much better.

I run a G5 on my 300 gallon system and don't believe there is such a thing as overskimming :)

Joel, you have a sand bend, a load of softies, and an enormous refugium.
You're NOT overskimming YOUR system :D

hehehe... just stalking you Scottie!

No load of softies anymore, budzinski! Though I have a colt, a few zoos, and some GSP. Still, about 25% of what it once was I'd say.

The fuge is out of control in more ways than one. Prob too big. Causing trouble.

Anyway, I think 2 g-3s would be fine on that system. Are you running bb?????

No, I have about a 1" sandbed. Thanks for the input. I just bought the skimmer, and also Tunze's.

It was a good day for the credit card company! I hope that Santa brings enough money to pay for this addictive hobby!

i run an aerofoamer 830 with ozone, an euroreef es5-2 and an euroreef es6-3.

there wil always be those who think they can overskim or not overskim. i am tired of the debate. just find what works for your system and stick with it.

i run the beckett only 6 hours per day though.

plus, i love live rock and have about 1200 pounds of it on my 180g system with 2x100 sumps with a total of 8 small fish. either way...i think my system is 'finally' at equilibrium.

For clarification...

The G4x is still being manufactured and readily available, the G4 Plus is just a new offering.

I run a single G3 on my 180, the skimmer is not modified. It skims the snot out of the tank.
