I have a 75 gal. What I want to do is put a 175 w mh over half of the tank and just use half of the tank for an anemone and some zoos. I know I will want more in the future. Will this light support most common corals? The question may be a bit broad but please forgive me I am still kind of new to this.

The rule for halides is 1 halide for every two feet, so you will need 2. Otherwise you will dark areas with no light at all. With 2 175 watt halides you could keep some softies, zoos shrooms, polyps etc. The LPS,SPS etc wont fair to well with that lighting. You would be better off going with 2 250 watt halides for that tank. Then you wont have to upgrade again and could keep whatever you wanted.
If you only want to have some softies and such the 2 175 will be ok. 175 watt halide wont do it.

Well I have a 75g RR and have 2 x 175w 10k's mh and 2 x 110w VHO actinics and have had no problem keeping SPS. My SPS grows and it's all happy and purple tipped... I have my sps at various heights from right on top to down in the sand bed and they all seem to be happy with the lighting. SO I don't think you have to go with 250's if you don't want cause 175s will do you just fine.

I was only suggesting the 250's since there isnt that much light for the harder corals, Unless you go with a higher Kelvin so the light has more of a efect on the lower end of the tank.

I forgot to mention that I currently use a 48 flourescent fixture with a 50/50 and an actinic 03. I stated that I would use the 175 on half the tank with the corals but forgot to mention that I would still use the flourescent fixture provided it fits (don't worry I have a sawzal).
