has anyone ever had a problem w/ yer tangs (yellow) being the most demonic things oin your tank??? i refuse to own another one. i tore down my entire tank to catch a 2 inch yellow tang, i was ****ed cause i couldn't get back my aquascape. he terrorizes any other fish i add. i added my baby (potters angel) and he chased him forever.

Ive read about others having problems but in my 28 years of keeping them Ive never had a bad one...weird.
My current yellow Ive had for about 8 years now and it has never bothered another fish or coral.
Ive had others in the past that always got along also even with other tangs.

I have owned 3, all of which are the most docile fish in my tank. Damsel's, Clowns. All got along with all 3 of my yellow tangs.

I had three that killed my beautiful Red Sea Regal Angel.

I have a 5" yeller and it's absolutely a team player. It's always a good idea to introduce aggressive fish last if you can too so a pecking order and turf is already established. ther ealways seems to be an exception to every rule too, I have a bi-color that never bothers a soul, others say that they are punks! He even chums around with a tiny yellow clown goby alot. <shrug> Who knows?

espo, what kind of fish is that?!? a grouper?

I once had a yellow tang, that within 5 minutes of being introduced to the tank, ate my cleaner shrimp! yikes!

I think most of their behavior depends on what size they are, and what size tank they are going in to

An awesome saddle grouper...not to be confused with the equally awesome clown grouper () : )
(If you haven't seen the pics in his sig you really should) () : )

Oh, on topic...I watched a small yellow tang pick a mandarin out of the LR and pick on it till it was dead...the mandarin would try to get back into the LR, but the YT would pull it back out into open water...after it died the YT just swam off.

I used to have them, but they beat the crap out of everything. IMO they are the "rats of the ocean!"

Espo, that's a beautiful saddle. I have a miniatus and a clown grouper. I love groupers!

that's a beautiful tank with all yer yellows, but i think that i am going to cut the tie to yellows, i have just had so many problems with them. i always wondered y my marron stayed to the top of the tank, now that he is in a breeding net for the time being he is swiming trough the tank with my potters angel

Espo you are a butcher.

Let your agressive fish attack a mirror for awhile. That might take the fight out of them.

I've always seen them in schools, even when young. I've never actually seen a small tang that wasnt in a group, but I've seen solo adults sometimes.

BINGO!! Dead right.

Always put the more aggressive fish in LAST!!!

Otherwise, they hog a LOT of territory, and can be big bullies.

My yellow tang was the 2nd addition of 6 and surely gave addition 3-5 a hard time. However, my yelow tang has now become the baby of the tank due to the addition of a lionfish, two triggers, and a queen angel. My queen angel used to pick on my yellow tang the most.

Whats funny is my yellow tang is now becoming braver. See he never would eat algae sheets, but recently I started adding them again and my queen angel devoured them so my yellow tang decided to come in and try some. Now once as I was watching the tank the trigger was bothering the yellow tang and the queen angel chased the trigger away, it's like they're algae eating buddies now. :)

Pavio your tangs all look incredibly healty and your tank looks awesome!
