I have a 90 gallon and i was going to put 440 watts of VHO lighting, unless you think there is a better option and i can not do metal halide, the corals i will be keeping is hammers, torch, ricordias, zoos, xenias, and brains so what would be the best retro fit lighting for a 90 gallon 24"h

A 4 x 54 watt T5 system would be good if heat is a concern. www.reefgeek.com has good prices.

Why cant you have MH's?

because the lights would be 5 inches off the water and i can not afford a chiller

For those corals I would do VHOs on an Icecap ballast personally.

T5s are nice but not sure if you can place those corals up high without burning them.

Yup, for those corals VHO will be perfect.

I'm running MH's in a custom made hood and no chiller, but I have two four inch fans that are blowing freash air into the hood all the time the lights are on.

Yea i hear if you place a fan blowing across the top of the water it works very well at keeping things cool and is $20 as aposed to $200 dollers.

That is how my tank is set up, two fans. One pulling in the air and the other blowing it out. I will say this, if the room get over 80 the tank temp will rise over 78.
